The theatrical trailer was released online on 20 December 2012.[22] The first promos of Nautanki Saala and Chashme Baddoor were attached to Special 26.[23] The movie was distributed all over India by Viacom 18 Motion Pictures and Wide Frame Pictures. Akshay Kumar, with the rest of the cast of Special Chabbis, were scheduled to visit the crime spot of the incident that inspired the film.[24][25] A special screening was held for CBI officials on 5 February 2013.[26]

Madhureeta Mukherjee of The Times of India gave the movie 3.5 out of 5 stars, while adding, "Special 26 doesn't stun you with a social message like Pandey's 'A Wednesday!', but it grips, excites and ahh...climaxes too! And no ... you can't fake this one! Catch it for pure cinematic orgasm."[30]
Principal photography of the film commenced in September 2016 and ended in August 2017. Thaana Serndha Kootam had a worldwide theatrical release on 12 January 2018. It received generally positive reviews from critics and audience with praise for the performances of the cast(especially Suriya and Karthik), writing, direction, screenplay, social message, background score and soundtrack. The film was a box office success.
However, in an interview during February 2017, Thiagarajan insisted that the film was still being planned with Prashanth in the lead role.[19] In late 2017, Thiagarajan made an application seeking an interim stay of the film's release, claiming that his studio of Staar Movies still owned the film's rights. He stated that Staar Movies had entered into an agreement with the original producers, Viacom, in August 2014 and obtained the rights to remake the movie in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada and that the agreement was valid for a period of three years. In early January 2018, the High Court refused the interim order application and called for the issues to be decided in a civil claim.[20][21]
Sony Music acquired the rights of the soundtrack album. The first single track "Naana Thaana" was released on 26 July 2017, sung by Anirudh himself with lyrics written by Vignesh Shivan. On 16 October 2017, coinciding with Anirudh Ravichander's birthday the teaser of the second single "Sodakku" was released of YouTube. The full song was released on 26 October 2017. The promotional video song of "Sodakku" was released on 27 October 2017, featuring members of the film's cast as well as Sheril, who rose to fame with her dance cover of the song "Entammede Jimikki Kammal" from Velipadinte Pusthakam (2017).
Another single track "Peela Peela" was released on 23 December 2017. The title track of Thaana Serndha Koottam, was released on 30 December 2017. The video jukebox and full album of the movie was unveiled on 6 January 2018. The soundtrack album of its Hindi version Surya Ki Gang and its Telugu version Gang, were released on 10 January 2018.
Pandey's choice of actors is fine, especially Kishore Kadam and Rajesh Sharma who don't have to belabor ordinariness. They simply are. Kadam plays a henpecked fellow just right, and Sharma is made to leave his home after touching an old lady's feet for her blessings : these are the touches which round off characters. Jimmy Sherigill's walk-on proves he is much better at supporting than having to lead.
Neeraj Pandey turns 47 today and the Baby director is known for his thriller flicks that remains fresh in the mind of the audience even today. Neeraj made an impressive Bollywood debut with Naseeruddin Shah and Anupam Kher's 2008 film A Wednesday. He even bagged the Indira Gandhi Award for Best Debut Film of a Director at the 56th National Film Awards. On Filmmaker's 47th Birthday, we bring you some of the best Neeraj Pandey movie quotes that will surely make you nostalgic about his intriguing movies. With Akshay Kumar's 2013 Hit Special 26, Neeraj established his name in Bollywood mastering the thriller genre and delivered yet another hit with Akshay Kumar's 2015 movie Baby. MS Dhoni Retires: When Akshay Kumar Wanted to Play Legendary Indian Cricket Captain in His Biopic But Neeraj Pandey Refused!
Neeraj Pandey's 2015 film starring Akshay Kumar in the lead is one of my fav film for many reasons. Especially for this patriotic dialogue that Akki delivers while confronting a terrorist in Mumbai. The film also featured Taapsee Pannu, Rana Daggubati, Danny Denzongpa and Anupam Kher in a major role.
I don't know what went wrong with Neeraj Pandey's Aiyaary but what was right about this Manoj Bajpayee-Sidharth Malhotra starrer were its dialogues. Though the plot was a bit convoluted this movie quote will be remembered for its depth.
Neeraj Pandey has done a fabulous job of recreating the Indian cities from the eighties. The background score, keeps up with the pace of the movie and keeps the audience engaged throughout as well. At times it feels the plotting is taking more time, but towards the end its justified.
A very good movie according to the Bollywood standard, but Neeraj Pandey, you are not the same man who made A Wednesday. You have also fallen in the crappy trap of fake but sweet love stories, I sincerely hope that the duration of trashy love and even trashier songs in your films decreases with time, but the signs are bad already. Every song is bogus and every expression of love is extremely stupid, but otherwise, this is one taut movie. Shows what Akshay Kumar is potentially capable of, and how pathetic the quality of directors really is in our country to not utilize him, but churn out shit like Student of the Year/Murder 3/Jism 91/Race 56.
The actual situation of the song in the movie is on a more romantic note I am guessing. And this is what I feel is the beauty of the song. Its simple, but expresses the feeling of love as a universal feeling that can be experienced by anyone, for anyone. ? Enjoy!
There have been reports doing the rounds that the Suriya starrer Thaana Serntha Kootam is the remake of the Bollywood blockbuster hit movie Special 26. However, the film is not being promoted as the remake which was creating a confusion among the film buffs. Well, its director Vignesh Shivan has put an end to all the rumours with a clarification. While agreeing that the producers of TSK had bought the remake rights of Special 26, the director revealed that it is not an exact remake. Only the core theme of the film has been retained while the rest has been changed to suit the nativity of the audiences, he is reported to have said during a recent media interaction.
Special Chabbis (26) now stands at an Overseas total of about 10.98 crores after its 2nd weekend at the Box Office. The numbers are very impressive and gives a reason to celebrate for Neeraj Pandey and the entire cast of this well made movie.
But still it remains one of the better movies from Bollywood thought I wished it didnt have so many weak points in its script. Now regarding your questions that, "Why we audience don't wants to see screen criminals (if they are hero) not to be caught by the police ? OR"Why we love a heroine who is happy to marry with a thief, why ? why we don't say that she is so stupid who is willing to merry a thief ?"The reason a person thinks that way is very simply and you may have heard it often too.And it is that a Human being is a sum of both good and bad. So his or her personality has both evil and goodness in different proportions which make him act in a particular manner.Besides the other truth is that we all may sound or be good always but the actual test of a person comes when he has a clear chance to commit a crime without any fear to get caught.....for example in a mob attack or riots or a group activity where a single person cannot be stated responsible. At these moments in 60 to 70 percent people the evil comes out at once and starts acting. Therefore when we watch such criminals posing at heroes in our films then that hidden evil side of our persona gets his food and we enjoy it a lot and as I see it such films can become a good way of introspection too.I hope I was able to explain myself in these few words.Cheers!HIS BLESSINGS
Hi Bobby,i think you are unnecessarily criticizing what has been one of the finest movies i have ever seen. Please understand this is 1980s when there are no mobiles and communication was very difficult, so smart criminals could get away easily. Probably there was no centralised quality database. I wonder if such a thing is there even today, then your doubts why anupam is in dubai.U see even if manoj vajpayi knows that they have been conned, there is no evidence for them to take action against anupam or his family.and surely the whole bureacratic setup of india makes it difficult for any action unless there is sure shot evidence.and the other question why audiences love it,it is bcoz these guys are robbing the corrupt and the rich,so naturally the audience loves it to see how the corrupt get thier due.thats why people love it even though they do bad things.neeraj pandey deserves the highest award bcoz he has created such a masterpiece and that too re-creating the 1980s and the crowd sequences, all have been spectacular.
Hi Roby,Differences of opinion are bound to be there and the basic reason for it may be the kind of heist movies one has already seen which might set the bar differently for different viewers. So from the Indian Standard as I said it is undoubtedly a worth watching film but along with that it does have many open loopholes also mentioned in the earlier comments. However regarding your points I have the following replies:1.Please understand this is 1980s when there are no mobiles and communication was very difficult, so smart criminals could get away easily. Probably there was no centralised quality database. I wonder if such a thing is there even today, then your doubts why anupam is in dubai.(Even in that time they successfully managed to reach Anupam's house and tap his phone too, so how come Anupam's wife escaped from there and what about their 5-6 children.....??)2. U see even if manoj vajpayi knows that they have been conned, there is no evidence for them to take action against anupam or his family.and surely the whole bureacratic setup of india makes it difficult for any action unless there is sure shot evidence.(The most shocking loophole of the film was when the Chief of Police introduces Jimmy to Manoj as a police inspector from a different branch like a big fool without confirming it officially from the headquarters or from the station he is coming from)3. And the other question why audiences love it, It is bcoz these guys are robbing the corrupt and the rich, So naturally the audience loves it to see how the corrupt get their due. thats why people love it even though they do bad things. (Regarding this point you can read my answer to the question in this same thread asked by Amit Joshi that "Why we audience don't wants to see screen criminals (if they are hero) not to be caught by the police?"Cheers!HIS BLESSINGS 2ff7e9595c
